South Africa off the mark at ICC U19 World Cup after thrashing Tanzania

Jason Rowles and captain Muhammed Bulbulia both scored centuries as South Africa recorded their first victory at this year's ICC 19 World Cup after thrashing Tanzania by 329 runs in Windhoek.

Rowles struck an unbeaten 125 off 101 balls while Bulbulia scored an run-a-ball 108 as the young Proteas blazed their way to a total of 397-5 in their 50 overs.

After winning the toss and batting first, opener Jorich van Schalkwyk was quickly into his stride, clearing the ropes five times on his way to 47 from 34 balls.

Fellow opener Adnaan Lagadien made 32 and his departure brought Bulbulia and Rowles together for a superb 201-run stand in which both made tons.

Paul James added 46 from 18 and Lethabo Phahlamohlaka an unbeaten 16 from five as South Africa smashed 116 from the final eight overs, almost breaching 400-run mark.

Bayanda Majola took two early wickets in reply to leave Tanzania reeling on 13 for four, while Rowles continued his memorable day by taking 2-14 and pulling off a run out.

Just three batters reached double figures, Mohammedi Simba top-scoring with 17, as the tournament debutants were bowled out for 68 in the 33rd over.
