SA20: Lightning abandons contest between Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals

James Vince struck a fluent 75 to lead Joburg Super Kings to 187, but lightning forced the SA20 clash against Paarl Royals to be abandoned at the Wanderers, with the sides sharing the points.

Joburg Super Kings made full use of the conditions after being sent in, with Vince and captain Faf du Plessis setting a strong platform. The new opening pair attacked from the outset, reaching 64 without loss inside the Powerplay.

Du Plessis looked in control as he took on teenage seamer Nqobani Mokoena, while Vince punished anything short from Bjorn Fortuin and Hardus Viljoen.

The breakthrough came in the eighth over when Sikandar Raza bowled du Plessis with a turning delivery that beat his defence. Vince continued to anchor the innings and reached his half-century with a mix of timing and placement, batting deep into the innings as JSK pushed towards a big total.

At 152 for three after 16 overs, two hundred looked possible, but Paarl Royals' attack finished strongly. Mokoena bowled Vince with a clever offcutter, Mujeeb ur Rahman ran out Leus du Plooy, and Viljoen removed Donovan Ferreira as Royals conceded just 35 runs in the final four overs.

Soon after the innings ended, lightning near the ground made conditions unsafe and the match was called off before Paarl Royals could begin their chase.

The result kept Joburg Super Kings second on the table and Paarl Royals third, with their return meeting set for January 19 at Boland Park.
