Proteas fast bowler Lizaad Williams joins Delhi Capitals for remainder of IPL campaign

Proteas fast bowler Lizaad Williams has joined the Delhi Capitals for the remainder of this year's Indian Premier League after being called up as an injury replacement for Harry Brook.

England international Brook withdrew before the tournament got underway due to the death of his grandmother and will instead play English county cricket with Yorkshire.

The 30-year-old Williams has represented the Proteas in two Tests, four ODIs and 11 T20Is but it will be his first stint in the IPL.

He was part of South Africa's squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, and made one appearance against Bangladesh.

The Titans bowler has taken 106 wickets from 83 T20s, with a bowling average of 19.76 and was outstanding in the SA20  earlier this year representing the Joburg Kings, finishing fourth in the wicket-takers list with 15 scalps.

Williams will join fellow Proteas speedster Anrich Nortje in the Capitals' pace department, which comprises Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson and Mukesh Kumar.

Williams will also hope to bring a change of fortunes to the Capitals as they currently sit bottom of the table having lost four of their opening five matches.
