Proteas captain Bavuma looking to relive memories of WTC Final against Australia

Proteas captain Temba Bavuma says they are looking forward to the Test series against Australia, having begun camp ahead of the first match in Durban from October 9.

Bavuma and his team will face the Baggy Greens for the first time since defeating them by 5 wickets in the final of the World Test Championship at Lord’s in London last year, and the skipper says they look forward to some of those heroics again.

While he expects a bit of tension between the two teams in the longest format of the game given their history, he doesn’t foresee anything negative between the two teams.

"There is always a different energy when it comes to test cricket, but I don't think it will be anything negative. A lot of us South Africans respect the Australians and their legacy, so just having them on our shores is special. There will always be banter, but I don't expect anything over the top."

A win against the Aussies would go a long way in their attempt to qualify for another final of the same competition next year and defend their title, and Bavuma highlighted the importance of this…

"It's in our competitive nature as cricketers that you want to be better than the other person and win trophies. With us getting that taste of silverware in the WTC, it's created that desire and belief that we can win a lot more trophies."

South Africa will also welcome Bangladesh in both white and red ball series this summer, while England will tour the country into the turn of the year.

Bavuma believes this is not only exciting for players and fans in the country but also cricket lovers around the globe.
