Australia add Nic Maddinson and uncapped Sam Harper to Test squad

Australia have called up Nic Maddinson and uncapped Sam Harper to their Test squad ahead of the three-match series against the Proteas as more injuries hit the camp in South Africa.

Josh Inglis has officially been ruled out with a fractured finger, sustained in the first ODI in Durban, with Harper being summoned as the back-up wicketkeeper from the Australia A tour of India.

Cameron Green is also a doubt for the opening Test match of the series, starting on 9 October, after suffering an abdominal injury in the final ODI on Wednesday, which necessitated a call for Maddinson, who has three Test caps, the last of which came in December in 2016.

The 34-year-old Maddinson underwent treatment for testicular cancer last year and did not play a domestic first-class match at home last season after getting surgery.

"Sam gives us wicketkeeping cover as Josh continues his recovery while Nic provides flexibility throughout the batting order," chairman of selectors George Bailey said.

Australia play a two-day warm-up match against a CSA Invitational XI in Potchefstroom on Saturday and Sunday before heading to Durban to start preparations for the first Test.
