Tim Seifert led the charge with 62 off 36 balls while opening partner Devon Cinway struck 44 in a partnership of exactly at the top of the order.
Daryl Mitchell then came in at number six and smashed an unbeaten 39 off just 18 deliveries to take New Zealand above the 200-run mark.
India then lost their way in the run-chase, with wicket falling at regular intervals as the hosts were reduced to 82-5 in the 11th over.
Shivam Dube struck seven sixes in a 23-ball 65 but the game was over as a contest as visiting skipper Mitchell Santner took 3-26 with his left-arm spin.
Fellow slow-bowler Ish Sodhi and seamer Jacob Duffy also took two wickets apiece as the home side were bowled out for 165 in the 19th over.
The fifth and final match of the series will take place in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday before the T20 World Cup kicks off on 7 February.
