The Brazilians looked set for victory after midfielder Katlego Ntsabeleng gave them a slender 1-0 lead but the visitors struck late when Tshegofatso Mabasa converted a rebound from a penalty to snatch a draw.
While Cardoso raised concerns over the officiating, he conceded the reigning Betway Premiership champions let the result slip.
"I think there are a lot of traps on our way up until the end. I also just saw the situation from Tashreeq (Matthews) and I think if there was VAR, Tashreeq would not have been offside for sure.
"As soon as Ronwen saved the penalty, the flag was up and then it went down. I don't have explanations for that. I don't want to comment too much on that, I can only complain that we should have done more to score the second goal that would've taken us out of trouble."
Cardoso dismissed the notion that there could have been complacency from his charges, who still have a game in hand over log leaders Orlando Pirates.
Asked about the ability to cope with the busy schedule between now and the end of the season – especially with a title on the line – Cardoso argued that having a squad of quality players does not guarantee points.
