Laura Wolvaardt shines as Proteas Women cruise to T20 victory over Sri Lanka

Laura Wolvaardt's batting display led the Proteas Women to a resounding 79-run victory against Sri Lanka in the first T20 International (T20I) held at Willowmoore Park.

Wolvaardt's remarkable century, her first-ever in the T20 format, saw her amass an impressive 102 runs from just 63 deliveries, including 12 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Her standout innings was complemented by Marizanne Kapp's solid contribution of 60 runs from 40 balls, featuring four fours and three sixes, resulting in South Africa posting a formidable total of 198/5 in their allotted 20 overs, marking their second-highest T20I score to date.

In pursuit of the daunting target, Sri Lanka struggled to find their footing and were eventually bowled out for 119 runs in 18.2 overs.

Annerie Dercksen and Tumi Sekhukhune played pivotal roles in South Africa's bowling attack, each claiming two wickets to seal victory for the home team.

Although opener Tazmin Brits departed early, Wolvaardt found a steady partner in Kapp, and their 116-run partnership set the stage for South Africa's commanding total.

Maintaining their momentum throughout the innings, South Africa's batswomen kept the scoreboard ticking, with Kapp and Wolvaardt's partnership proving to be the cornerstone of their innings.

In response, Sri Lanka's batting lineup faltered against South Africa's disciplined bowling unit, with early wickets denting their chase.

Despite brief partnerships, Sri Lanka failed to build substantial stands and eventually succumbed to the pressure, handing South Africa a convincing victory.
