Karabo Meso excited to play in front of home crowd against Ireland

Proteas Women wicketkeeper-batter Karabo Meso says the team looks forward to play in front of home supporters when they host Ireland Women for an Inbound T20 International Series starting on Friday in Cape Town.

The three-day series will also move to Boland Park, Paarl on 7 December and conclude in Willowmoore Park in Benoni on 10 December.

Straight from claiming silver at the 2025 ICC ODI World Cup in India, Meso says the team is in high spirits and want to continue from where they left off…

“Obviously the ODI World Cup was tough, we didn't win the trophy - hard pill to swallow. But we are a good team that knows how to bounce back. We are excited and we look forward to playing in front of the home crowd,” said Meso.

With South Africa being four positions higher than Ireland in the ICC T20 International rankings, Meso insists it is going to be a tough series but believes playing at home gives them an upper hand over their opponents.

“It is not going to be easy but we have high standards as a team. So playing at home will help us to remain calm but it will give us an advantage to press them. It is the first one at home, so we are relaxed, however we will still find a way to come hard at them,” added Meso.

This year comes as a major highlight for the 18-year-old having played two World Cup finals back to back. She shares what this achievement means to her.

“It’s been a big year. Not everyone at my age gets to enjoy playing cricket at a high level. It was good to play against my peers at the under-19 World Cup, and subsequently played with the seniors. I am humbled by the experience and just want to continue showing up,” she expressed.
