Jofra Archer shines as Bumrah's brilliance keeps India in the hunt at Lord's

At stumps, India were 145-3 in reply to England's 387 all out, trailing by 242 runs.

England's innings was headlined by Joe Root, who brought up his 37th Test century before falling for 101, playing on to Jasprit Bumrah during a fiery seven-ball spell.

Bumrah's devastating burst also removed Ben Stokes for 44 and Chris Woakes for a golden duck, finishing with figures of 5-74 - his spell widely praised as the most influential of the day.

England had earlier slumped to 271-7, but a spirited fightback led by debutant Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (52*), who shared a valuable 84-run stand, lifted them to a competitive total.

India's reply began in dramatic fashion as Jofra Archer, returning after four years of injury setbacks, struck with his third delivery, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck - caught at second slip. Archer's emotional celebration lit up Lord's in a moment to remember.

India recovered through KL Rahul (53*) and Rishabh Pant (19*), who batted despite a finger injury. Captain Shubman Gill fell for 16 to Woakes, while Karun Nair made a composed 40 before edging Stokes to Joe Root - who took his record 211th Test catch as an outfielder.

With India still trailing by 242 and the heat bearing down, Day 3 promises further twists in an enthralling contest.
