IPL: Mumbai Indians advance after knocking out Gujarat Titans

Mumbai Indians are still alive in this season's Indian Premier League (IPL) after beating Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator on Friday.

Rohit Sharma blitzed his way to 81 off 50 balls while Jonny Bairstow struck 41 from 22 deliveries as Mumbai amassed a total of 228-5 in their 20 overs before restricting their opponents to 208-6.

The experienced international opening pair put on 84 in 7.2 overs to set the platform for Mumbai to launch with the bat throughout the innings.

There were further valuable contributions down the order from Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20), Tilak Varma (25 off 11) and captain Hardik Pandya (22 not out off 9).

The Titans were well within the contest in the run-chase as opening batter Sai Sudharsan scored 80 off just 49 balls while Washington Sundar struck 48 from 24 deliveries.

Sherfane Rutherford, who came in as an impact sub, kept the game alive with a 24 off 15 balls but was dismissed by Trent Boult with 31 runs still needed.

In a high-scoring match, Jasprit Bumrah once again showed his class, the India fast bowler only going for 27 runs in his four overs while taking a wicket.

The Mumbai Indians now advance to Qualifer 2 where they will take on Punjab Kings for a place in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
