Dewald Brevis not worried about SA20 expectations ahead of opener

Dewald Brevis says he will not put himself under pressure ahead of the SA20, and will try as much as possible to just enjoy his game.

Brevis was snapped up by the Pretoria Capitals at the auction in September for a record-breaking R16.5 million, and will be hoping to live up to that when they get their season underway against the Joburg Super Kings today.

He says he will not let media and fan expectations distract him.

"It's important for me to play with a smile and enjoy my game. Whatever is in the media, that is from the past and I'm focused on this SA20 right now. The pressure is a privilege, and you can do nothing except for going out there and enjoying it."

Brevis returns to his former home ground with the Titans and says he’s looking forward to playing in front of the fans there.

He called the Centurion venue a special place for him.

"It's a special place, and it brings back a lot of memories from my childhood, and it's very near to my heart because of the incredible atmosphere with all the families on the grass embankments and in the stands."

The 22-year-old also sang the praises of Keshav Maharaj, who was appointed the Capitals’ captain for the upcoming season taking over from Rilee Rossouw.

He says Maharaj, along with coach Sourav Ganguly have done a fantastic job at the franchise.

He says while the T20 World Cup is not too far from now, he’s not focused on that but rather the SA20 alone. He says the rest will take care of itself.
