Dewald Brevis blasts Pretoria Capitals into SA20 Final

Dewald Brevis powered to a 38-ball 75 against Sunrisers Eastern Cape to lead Pretoria Capitals to the final of the SA20, booking them a ticket to Newlands this coming Sunday with a seven-wicket win.

It was only fitting that the most expensive player in the tournament’s history was the one to prove his worth when it mattered most, having gone for a whopping R16.5 million at the auction ahead of this season. Brevis was pleased to secure the victory and go straight into the decider, while SEC will still have a second chance when they face the winner of today’s Eliminator between Joburg Super Kings and Paarl Royals.

"It was really nice to know that we're going straight into the final. We've got some time to recover and to prepare, but I'm very proud of the boys. It was a team effort, we all fought it out there, and it was just very enjoyable to be out there and walk off the field with everyone, especially with Sherfane."

Brevis played an explosive innings littered with 11 boundaries – four fours and seven sixes – and shared a key 91-run partnership with Bryce Parsons. He believes this is what took the pressure off them and put it onto their opponents.

"To be fair, I always knew there would be sixes and fours because it was a good wicket. I think for us it was about building a partnership and really making them go in search of a wicket, so we were in a good position as the partnership grew. There was a tiny break in momentum when I had to come in, but as the partnership developed and Bryce played beautifully, that took a lot of pressure off the team and put a bit more pressure on them."

Sunrisers had earlier won the toss and elected to bat first at Kingsmead, posting  170 in their 20 overs. Brevis says he was happy to chase, which gives them confidence heading into the final.

Although they beat the table-toppers and three-time finalists SEC, the 22-year-old says they can still improve in certain areas ahead of the already sold-out match in Cape Town.
