David Miller heroics in vain as Gujarat Titans edge Delhi Capitals in IPL thriller

David Miller could not provide the finishing touch as the Delhi Capitals fell to a one-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in a thrilling Indian Premier League clash.

Chasing a target of 211, Miller had given Delhi the edge with an unbeaten 40 but, with two runs required from two deliveries, failed to take his side over line in the last over.

With number 9 Kuldeep Yadav at the non-strikers end, Miller refused a single off the penultimate ball to draw the scores level before missing the final delivery and Gujarat wicketkeeper Jos Buttler inflicted a direct-hit to run Kuldeep out as the batting pair attempted to run a bye.

Delhi openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka put their side on course in the run-chase with a stand of 76 for the first wicket before Sri Lanka international Nissanka was dismissed for 41.

Rahul went on to score 91 from 52 balls but Gujarat kept taking wickets to keep themselves in the contest.

Miller had looked to close out the game after smashing three sixes and three fours in his knock but seamer Prasidh Krishna ultimately his nerve at the death to keep the opponents to 209-8 and give Gujarat a narrow win.

Gujarat had earlier posted a total of 210-4 in their 20 overs with captain Shubman Gill top-scoring for the visitors with 70 from 45 balls.

Washington Sundar hit 52 from 32 deliveriies while England gloveman Buttler made a welcome return to form with the willow, striking 52 off 27 balls.

Proteas seamer Lungi Ngidi was the best bowler on show for Delhi with economical figures of 1-24 in his fours overs while the other bowlers were took to the cleaners.
