Cricket World Cup LOC Board vows to deliver a world class tournament

2027 Cricket World Cup Local Organising Committee Board chairperson Trevor Manuel has urged the members to make sure the event is a memorable experience for everyone.

Cricket South Africa today announced a 15-member board including six Independent Non-executive Directors, five Non-Independent Non-executive Directors, and three Ex-officio members.

South Africa will host the bulk of the matches, while Zimbabwe and Namibia will also come in on a bit of a cameo role.

Manuel says every sector has to work together to make this a success.

"The success of the Cricket World Cup will largely be because the national government can bring all of these spheres into play. It's fundamentally important because if you don't have the transport ministry involved, you don't have airports that function, you leave bad experiences for those that come and visit the country,” Manuel said..

“If you don't have a police service properly engaged, our tourists are going to have very bad experiences. We must get our invitees to South Africa, the experience is what matters, the experience is what will be lasting and will bring people back to South Africa."

Sport Minister Gayton MacKenzie, who officially announced the board today, admitted that there’s a few touch-ups to be done, but believes the country has proven itself enough on the world stage to host such an event.

"We've hosted a soccer World Cup but there's no country in the world that hosts events without touch ups. You go to countries in the world, America now, they are busy preparing for the soccer world cup and the Olympics,” Mckenzie said.

“What I must add is that what's important for people to know about the government of national unity is that one of the KPI's that I have it's that we must bring big events to South Africa but our country, South Africa always wins. If it's necessary for South Africa to rise to the occasion, it never fails."
