Proteas coach pledges support for flagged Prenelan Subrayen

Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has explained what it is that got spin bowler Prenelan Subrayen in hot water with the ICC, after he was flagged for suspect bowling action.

Subrayen has been haunted by issues with his bowling action for years, which now seem to have spilled into his international career after making his ODI debut just this week.

He now needs to undergo independent testing of his action at an ICC-accredited testing centre within 14 days, and Conrad wants it done as soon as possible.

"So they flagged 12 bowls, I think they forwarded to us and I don't know enough about this but I think he's gonna emulate those 12 bowls during the test. We're gonna be sending our bowling coach as well just to be there with him and support and obviously for us to gain some knowledge as to how all of these things work," Conrad said.

Following the three ODIs in Australia, South Africa will head straight to the UK for another white ball series against England.

Conrad wants the testing process completed in Brisbane so as to know whether Subrayen will be part of the travelling party or not.

"The process is to get him tested as soon as we possibly can and we're looking to do it in Brisbane which suits everyone. We're going to the UK via Brisbane and hopefully we can get that done sooner rather than later, so that's the process from here on in," the coach added.

Although he can play until the results of the tests come out, the coach has revealed that they’ve decided he should sit the last two matches out in order to protect him.

"He can play, he's available to play, so you are allowed to play until you get tested. I just felt, we just felt, together with Subs [Subyaren] that there's noise, it's getting away out to the public eye, just to make sure that he's okay and he focuses on this testing. That’s why his name is not gonna be on the team sheet tomorrow."
