Cricket SA promise T20 World Cup post-mortem
Cricket South Africa leadership say they are in the process of appointing a review panel to dissect what went wrong for the Proteas at the T20 World Cup in Australia.
South Africa - despite being one of the strongest teams on paper at the tournament - once again succumbed to the pressures of a world cup as they were bundled out at the group stage by the Netherlands on Sunday.
The team returned to Johannesburg on Wednesday evening, with Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe confirming that a thorough post-mortem will be done to determine the appropriate measures to be taken.
Look, I think it is important that we do a review in terms of what has actually happened. We are in the process of obviously putting a panel together to ensure that the review is very clinical, said Nkwe.
Nkwe was quizzed about his view on the selection decisions at the World Cup that saw underperforming players retained ahead of players who had enjoyed good form prior to the tournament - one such being opening batter Reeza Hendricks.
At the end of the day, its the call of the coach [and] panel, and I trust them that they will make the right calls in terms of, on the day, what would be the best 11 to represent our country.
I dont get involved in selection, we have people that are in charge of selection and I leave it to them. The whole interference and that, I think, from my side, its actually wrong.
Obviously, its never easy for someone [not only] like Reeza but any other players that are not taking part in a game or playing for their country, but Im sure that moving forward, there will be some opportunities.
