Allan Donald wants more of the same from the Lions in the new domestic season

The Johannesburg franchise won the CSA 4-Day Series and lost the final of the One Day Cup to the Titans last season, while they were a lot less impressive in the T20 Challenge. Donald says they just need to keep improving their standards and stay hungry for more success.

"Look, uhm, all I can say is that we work tirelessly on our standard. We are very lucky we've got the depth that we've got at the DP World Lions. You sit every season and think, what can I do better, what are the things that we need to focus on to make us an even better side, but the rest of the country have gotten you fair and square in the crosshairs," said Donald .

While they would have loved a trophy overhaul last season, Donald says they don’t have much to complain about. He says the nail-biting loss in the final against the cross-Jukskei rivals could have easily gone their way, and that the T20 Challenge is not really a monkey on their backs.

The Proteas legend says his relationship with head coach Russell Domingo has also helped make the Lions successful, having also worked together in the Proteas set-up. He says Domingo has a way of making players feel comfortable, which gets the best out of them.

In one of the competition rebrands for the new season, Cricket SA announced that Division 1’s T20 Challenge and Division 2’s T20 Knockout will now be unified and be known as the Pro20 Cup. Donald gave the new innovation the nod, saying it’s also a great way of identifying new talent.
