Bedingham has been in sublime form at the start of the English domestic first-class season and has scored five hundreds in six matches.

The 30-year-old, who has played four Tests after making his debut against India in Centurion on Boxing Day last year, started his English domestic campaign with scores of 49 and 36 against Warwickshire.

The right-handed batter then made 38 and 138 against Worcestershire before striking 52 and 33 not out against Essex.

Bedingham's record-breaking feat started with 144 in his only innings against Hampshire before hitting twin hundreds (101 and 103) against Lancashire.

The Western Province player then broke the Durham record in the first innings against Somerset, hitting 101 in a total of 265 all out.

Bedingham's superb form with the bat will be welcomed by Proteas Test coach Shukri Conrad, who is gearing up for a two-match series against West Indies in the Caribbean in August.

It was Conrad who gave the middle-order batter his Test debut and was rewarded with a score of 56 against a quality India bowling attack.

Bedingham then scored 87 in the first Test against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in February before hitting his maiden international hundred in the second match of the series in Hamilton.
