Yusuf Maart motivated ahead of Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Yusuf Maart is one of the few players with the rare opportunity of having featured in both sides of the Soweto Derby.

As a Pirates development product, he was cultured on that side in this clash of Titans but on a professional level, he’s living his dream on the gold and black side.

Maart says playing in a derby is an honour.

"It's a privilege, it's a blessing in disguise, I would like to say thank you to the Almighty for the blessings and many, many more that's coming. To play in a derby game it's a privilege to play in it because you are playing for a big team," Maart said.

"Everyone wants to play a derby game in South Africa but everyone can't get the opportunity, so for me who's here, I'm grateful to have the opportunity. The feeling is nice, the fans motivate you, you go and put the effort out for them."

The Soweto derby is a special game and the development level players are taught different ways how to approach it but that all becomes religion as Maart recalls what he was taught at Pirates.

"They taught us about the derby. They will show you videos, how the rivals fight each other. How aggressive they are on the field, how the big heart they have on the field. So, that basically always takes me back, that's why I always put 120% in a derby game."
