"We were lucky" - Thomas Tuchel unimpressed as England need extra-time to see off Norway

Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with England's performance in their World Cup quarter-final despite their 2-1 extra-time defeat of Norway.

The Three Lions found themselves a goal down at the Miami Stadium on Saturday following Andreas Schjelderup's 36th minute opener.

An in-form Jude Bellingham rose to the occasion with an equaliser on the stroke of half-time before grabbing a winner in the third minute of extra-time after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Tuchel admitted his side was lucky after Norway dominated the second half, and had a second goal disallowed by VAR.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel told ITV Sport: "We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today.

"The result is fantastic, we're in the last four. It's amazing. I'm not happy with the performance.

"In every sense. The commitment is there but we made life very, very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played. Sloppy, tactical mistakes, not fast enough. Not repetitive enough. We were lucky enough.

"We will get better, we need to get better. Now it's celebrations. Now it's taking it all in. We need everything to make a better performance."

Meanwhile, a delighted Bellingham praised his teammates for a "dirty" performance against Erling Haaland's Norway.

"It's difficult out there. It's a tough shift," he said. "All the players are putting in a tough shift. So my thoughts and appreciation go to the players who put in a good shift out there.

"Maybe he doesn't know what it's like to play in those kinds of conditions against Erling Haaland, (Martin) Odegaard, (Antonio) Nusa, (Alexander) Sorloth. That's not an easy team to play against.

"So, I think we've tried to create a positive environment. We should continue that going into the final four. I can't speak highly enough of the lads.

"You're not going to win every game, popping the ball and making a thousand passes. Sometimes you have to win dirty, and we've done that again tonight."

England will now play a mouth-watering semi-final with Argentina, who saw off Switzerland 3-1 in their quarter-final clash, also after extra-time.
