We need to find solutions - Steve Barker as Stellenbosch suffer another loss

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker was left searching for answers following yet another loss in the Betway Premiership last night, this time to Richards Bay FC at the Danie Craven stadium.

The 1-0 defeat brings their number of losses to five this season in just seven games played, joint most so far along with Siwelele FC and Orbit College.

Barker admitted things are not looking too good for them at the moment, and knows something has to change sooner rather than later.

"Right now, we are not playing our best football at the moment; we know and understand that. If you believe that it is going okay, then you have a false sense of reality.

"I had a good chat with the players, and we are all motivated to turn this situation around."

Barker’s team has also only scored three goals this season, another unwanted statistic they share with Siwelele as the lowest.

He lamented how they’ve just not been able to play their normal game of late.

"It's just clear to see that we aren't getting in behind, we are not creating good chances, and we aren't making enough box entries.

"We are crossing the ball from wider and deeper in the field, and that isn't exactly our style."

The former Amazulu and University of Pretoria coach also bemoaned that his side has conceded goals rather cheaply at times, and often find themselves chasing in most of their matches.

Barker offered a reminder about their success in recent times and stressed that they haven’t become a bad team overnight despite the challenges they’re facing.
