Talks began in late 2024, but discussions have broken down over salary demands, with Vinicius pushing to earn the same as Kylian Mbappe. Real Madrid are unwilling to match that figure, though both sides still hope to reach a compromise. Diario AS have reported that no fresh meetings are scheduled.
The winger, who has two years left on his current deal, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Reports earlier this year suggested Saudi officials were prepared to offer a transfer fee close to 300 million euros, alongside a contract worth up to one billion euros.
Vinicius even held talks in February, although the speculation cooled by March when it appeared he was ready to commit his future to Madrid.
Xabi Alonso has insisted the forward remains central to his project. "Vinicius is very important for us, not only for his goals but also the energy and intensity he brings," the Madrid coach said recently.
The 25-year-old has started this season brightly, scoring twice and adding an assist in La Liga. That follows a prolific campaign in 2024-25 when he contributed 22 goals and 19 assists across all competitions. Yet there are suggestions he is uneasy about his role, with Mbappe's arrival slightly altering his position in attack.
Real Madrid want to avoid a situation where Vinicius enters the final year of his contract in 2026, with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City monitoring developments closely.
For now, the standoff continues, with the coming months set to be decisive in determining whether the Brazilian extends his stay in the Spanish capital or considers one of the lucrative alternatives on the table.
