Veteran German star Manuel Neuer set to extend Bayern Munich spell

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is set to agree a new contract with the Bundesliga champions ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The 40-year-old Germany legend is reportedly close to signing a new one-year deal with the Bavarians to extend his stay with the club to 16 season's.

According to Sky Germany, the 2014 World Cup winner has reached a "complete agreement" to extend his contract with Bayern Munich until June 30, 2027 and involves a salary reduction.

Neuer has made 39 appearances for the club this season despite being affected by recurrent muscle injuries and will be keen to add to his overall 597 matches for the team.

The decorated club captain has won a total of 32 trophies with Bayern, including two UEFA Champions League titles and a whopping 13 Bundesliga championships.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has also suggested that Neuer could make a return to the German national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup despite his retirement from international football in 2024.
