Usuthu aim to strengthen top three hold with home win

AmaZulu defender Sandile Mthethwa, alongside forward Thabiso Kutumela, has underlined the importance of this evening’s Betway Premiership encounter against Sekhukhune United, with the battle for a CAF Confederation Cup place heating up.

The race for third position remains tightly contested, with Usuthu currently holding that spot on 37 points, while Babina Noko sits just three points behind as they look to close the gap.

Mthethwa says the squad made full use of the recent FIFA international break and Easter period to fine-tune their preparations for the clash, scheduled for a 17:30 kick-off at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Sekhukhune United head into the fixture knowing a positive result could see them draw level on points with AmaZulu, adding further significance to the contest.

Usuthu carry some confidence into the match after back-to-back league victories over Richards Bay and Polokwane City prior to the international break, but striker Thabiso Kutumela admits there is concern about maintaining that momentum.

"We wish to continue playing because when there are breaks in between, it affects the momentum. But we are looking forward to winning this game because it's important. We are playing against the team with whom we are competing for a third-place position, but only one team can be there. So, we have to win this game to show who wants it more," said Kutumela.

Under coach Arthur Zwane, AmaZulu have built a strong record at home, securing seven wins from eleven matches, along with one draw and three defeats.

Mthethwa has urged the club’s supporters to fill the stands and play their part, as Usuthu aim to strengthen their position in the top three with another important home performance.

Kutumela says he remains focused and prepared to make an impact whenever given the chance.

The forward adds that every contribution will be vital as Usuthu look to stay competitive in the closing stages of the campaign.
