Sukazi’s TS Galaxy Queens and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies – the two teams at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table – are the only two affiliated to clubs in the men’s professional league, while Royal AM lost their PSL status last season but still compete in the women’s game.
Sukazi holds the strong opinion that the women’s league should reflect that of their male counterparts.
"It is very important, and it will be great to see the log table of the women's game resemble the Betway Premiership.
"We need more buy-in from our fellow clubs, because for now it is only TS Galaxy Queens and Mamelodi Sundowns with top women's teams, and it can never be so in a country like ours that is blessed with so much talent."
CAF introduced a new regulation three seasons ago, which requires all clubs participating in their inter-club competitions to have an active women’s team in a league sanctioned by their respective Football Associations, in accordance with Article 27 of the CAF Men’s Club Licensing Regulations.
Sukazi says many of the clubs have found a way around the rules and don’t necessarily adhere to them.
"Clubs have found a way to circumvent those CAF rules. Look at who is playing CAF competitions in the men's game, do these clubs have women's teams? No. So how do they qualify for CAF licensing?
He also made a plea to the private sector to come to the party and put some money into the women’s game, therefore allowing the ladies to make a living as full-time professionals.
He believes this is also the key to a stronger national team.
"It is unfortunate that our women cannot make a living from playing professional football, despite their talents and despite achieving great things. Clubs cannot afford many things, so it's very important for corporate South Africa to come on board."
Sukazi’s team moved to within one point of Sundowns following their 2-0 win over the University of Johannesburg yesterday, and although there’s still a long way to go until the end of the season, he believes they have what it takes to dethrone the champions this season.
