Thabo Nodada happy to stay at Cape Town City

Cape Town City skipper Thabo Nodada remains unperturbed by reports linking him away from the Citizens.

Nodada, a key figure since the club’s inception in 2016, expresses contentment with his football at the Mother City-based outfit.

Speaking to SABC Sport, he emphasized that only a substantial offer would tempt him away from the Citizens, highlighting his optimism fuelled by the team’s growth each season.

Currently, City holds the second position on the league table with 29 points from 16 matches, trailing log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by six points.

"I think when I was younger at 23, 24, I paid a lot of attention to it [transfer rumours], I was new but as I grew older, look, if it's gonna happen it's gonna happen and if it's not gonna happen, it's not gonna happen,” Nodada said.

“Killing myself for it and stressing over a suitor that needs to pay money for my services, I've got no control over that. The only control I've got is to go on the field and play and if people are interested, they do the right things. So far, the person who's put their money where their mouth is, is my club chairman and that's why I'm at City.

“You have to put things into perspective, I was there when the club was launched, we've never finished out of the top eight. We've played in four finals, if we were to tell you the points that were picked up in those seven years, I think Sundowns is first and we are second.

“So, as much as I'd love to go elsewhere in terms of the football and the collection of points and actually making a mark in South African football, I am at a team that is competing."

The 28-year-old midfielder conveyed contentment with the team’s first-half performance of the season.

Although City had a sluggish beginning in the league, they managed to bounce back, concluding the initial phase in the second position – a notable improvement compared to previous seasons.

"I think we have a tendency to start slow, we have a tendency to start low that we've been trying to eradicate for so long and this year I think we finally did it. So, this season we finally did it. The first five, or six games were a bit wobbly but we sit top 2 now. Nine wins, the most we've ever achieved in the first round and I think that's positive. Our strong point has always been the second round. So, we are very anxious to see where we finish off."
