SuperSport United to dedicate their next two matches to their fallen hero George Chigova

SuperSport United is gearing up for a hectic fortnight, with an action-packed schedule featuring CAF Confederation Cup matches and a highly anticipated Tshwane derby against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The team, boasting three-time league champions, is set to kick off their Group A campaign in Egypt against Modern Future on Sunday at 3pm.

Following this, they will face Sundowns in the derby on Wednesday and then return home for another challenging Confed Cup encounter against USM Alger on December 3.

In honour of their fallen hero George Chigova, who sadly passed away last week, defender Thulani Hlatshwayo expressed the team’s commitment to dedicating their upcoming two matches to his memory.

"We will know tomorrow when we are travelling to Egypt and we know that on Wednesday we have Mamelodi Sundowns. Which is an opportunity to really win against Polokwane City. An opportunity to win against Sekhukhune by the time that we play Sundowns," Hlatshwayo said.

"As much as yes we will be number one at the time because they've been busy with their projects in CAF. Obviously, for us, it would have been good playing them having been in that situation but now with losing George Chigova, I think we need to dedicate these next two games to George.

"Make sure that we get the results. Yes, we do know that Sundowns have games in hand but games in hand are not points. So, it's for us to focus on ourselves."

Hlatshwayo’s close friend, Chigova sadly passed away last Wednesday when he collapsed at his residence in South Africa.

His final resting place will be in his homeland of Zimbabwe during the upcoming weekend.

"We all shared George differently but fortunately or unfortunately I got to be closer to George, especially this season. Gabuza [Thamsanqa] had been my roommate and when Gabuza left the team I got to share a lot of moments with George.

“Each and every player especially since he has spent six years in the team, he came here as a youngster and they shared George differently. It's life and we can't fault or question God but we have to celebrate his life."
