Scaloni hails Argentina's stunning fightback against England to reach World Cup final

Argentina looked to be heading out after falling behind at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but they produced a spirited comeback to reach a second World Cup final under Scaloni's leadership.

The Argentina coach struggled to hide his emotions after the final whistle as he reflected on another memorable night for his side.

"I tell the people to enjoy this. It's wonderful," Scaloni said.

"They should enjoy reaching the final and thank these players because it's hard to describe this group with words. My voice is trembling because this means so much. It was very emotional."

Scaloni said his players showed exactly the attitude he expects, refusing to give up despite the setback of conceding the opening goal.

"We created seven or ten chances after they scored, so what more can you ask for?" he said.

"The important thing is that the team fought until the end. That is fundamental for me. Even if we had gone home, we would have done so knowing we gave everything and played the match we wanted."

The 48-year-old believes the performance was about much more than simply winning a football match.

"After their goal, the reaction showed everything we want our football to be," he said.

"I say this sincerely, it isn't victory that motivates me. Of course I want to be world champion, who wouldn't? But that's not what drives me."

"I've been through a lot over the past year, so I don't judge myself by whether we win or lose. The most important thing is how we deal with difficult moments."

"The way we reacted in the final part of the match was an incredible demonstration from this team. Whatever happens in the next game, this performance already means a great deal to me."

Argentina will now face Spain in Sunday's World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey as they chase a fourth world title. It will be the first World Cup final between the reigning European champions and the Copa America champions.
