Zungu responds to Mngqithi return rumour

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has responded to rumours of coach Manqoba Mngqithi's return to Durban.

Mngqithi joined Mamelodi Sundonws in 2014 as an assistant to coach Pitso Mosimane alongside coach Rulani Mokwena. In the nine years, he has won all the trophies, including the CAF Champions League in 2016.

However, his future with the DStv Premiership Champions is in doubt after he was demoted earlier this season. His current contract expires in June but Sundowns have the option to extend.

Speaking to Ukhozi FM, Zungu claimed Mngqithi is still highly regarded and commands great respect at his Durban-based club.

"We respect coach Manqoba, he did well for AmaZulu FC. Unfortunately for now he is still contracted at Mamelodi Sundowns.

"We can not be talking about him, let's respect his current club Sundowns”, he said.

Furthermore, Zungu revealed current interim coach Ayanda Dlamini has been tasked with demonstrating his worthiness for a permanent position.

"We have told Ayanda to use this time, to prove himself. He must make us not ignore him, when we decide on who should be the next coach, alongside his assistant Sboniso Vilakazi.

"We respect them so much. So officially, no coach has been approached for the permanent job.”
