Rulani Mokwena insists Mamelodi Sundowns should dominate PSL awards

Mamelodi Sundowns players should dominate the PSL awards at the end of the season, according to coach Rulani Mokwena.

With the DStv Premiership title long wrapped up by The Brazilians, the focus is now quickly shifting to those deserving of accolades for their performances through the season.

Mokwena has made a case for a few of his charges, but also acknowledged the contributions by Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi as well as Jayden Adams of Stellenbosch FC.

"I don't think we've seen the best of Lucas Ribeiro, even though I think he's a close contender for Footballer of the Season," said Mokwena.

"I honestly think, as I said even before, it's Ronwen Williams, Lucas Ribeiro, Marcello Allende and Teboho Mokoena.

"And then there must be – you have to commend the contribution of Maswanganyi, and maybe Adams, but the reality is the level of Ronza, Tebza, Marcello Allende, and Lucas Ribeiro, for me,  they've been outstanding this season."

Following their 2-0 win over Royal AM on Tuesday night to continue their unbeaten run in the league, Mokwena again reiterated his stance of pleading for patience for one of their strikers Lesiba Nku, as well as the other recently signed players.

"Lesiba doesn't need confidence at the moment, Lesiba needs time. He's like all of them – [Matias] Esquival, they all need time, [Thembinkosi] Lorch," he added.

"They don't need confidence, they need time. And I spke about Lesiba because I could see the amount of criticism, which was really undue, that he was getting."
