Roma's Wesley eyes Europa glory in high-stakes Bologna clash

The tie stood at 1-1 after the first meeting at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, leaving everything to play for.

Speaking ahead of the match at Stadio Olimpico, Wesley admitted he was proud of his growing role in the squad but remained grounded. "I'm very happy. I want to carry on like this and be a key player for Roma," he said. "I have to thank the coach for wanting me here. I try to do my best to help the team."

The defender also addressed recent frustration following controversial refereeing decisions in Serie A action against Como. Reflecting on his dismissal, he said: "There's no way it was a foul. It was a serious, decisive and unacceptable incident. At 1-1 in a difficult match, it would have been very different with eleven against eleven."

Despite setbacks, Wesley highlighted his development since arriving in Italy, noting the tactical demands of the game. "Italian football is different to Brazilian football. The coach wants me to attack, avoid mistakes and make the right decisions. I'm improving, but I still have room to grow, especially in balancing defence and attack."

He also underlined his versatility, having featured on both flanks. "I'll play wherever the coach puts me. I think I've improved my attitude and tactical awareness."

Looking ahead to Thursday's clash, Wesley made it clear how much the competition meant to the squad. "It's a big objective for us. Careers are made in competitions like this. These matches are make or break, so we need 100 per cent focus."

On his battle with Federico Bernardeschi in the first leg, he added: "He's a very good player. It was a great battle, and we must be ready to deal with him again."

With the tie finely balanced, Roma know only a complete performance will be enough to progress.
