Report: Liverpool eye Bayern Munich's Kim Min-jae as defensive doubts grow

The Reds' interest comes as they face uncertainties over their defensive lineup, with three key players' futures in question.

Kim, 28, joined Bayern from Napoli two years ago for a record-breaking 58 million euros, making him the most expensive Asian footballer ever. Despite helping Bayern secure the Bundesliga title in 2024, Kim has struggled to cement a starting spot, appearing in 79 matches but failing to fully convince.

German football expert Christian Falk revealed Bayern's openness to a sale, stating, "FC Bayern can imagine a sale. There's interest from Saudi Arabia, but we're waiting to see if Liverpool and Manchester United make concrete moves."

Falk added, "No decision has been made on Kim's future, and there have been no negotiations with his side. However, the interest from Premier League clubs is real."

Manchester United, who pursued Kim before his Bayern move and again last summer, could rival Liverpool for his signature. Falk noted, "Last summer, Manchester United knocked on the door, but Kim wasn't ready to leave. They might try again."

Liverpool's interest is unusual, as Kim's age doesn't align with their typical strategy of signing young talents with high resale value. However, doubts over Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez, and Ibrahima Konate have prompted the Reds to explore options.

Quansah has drawn interest from Bayer Leverkusen, with talks ongoing for a potential transfer. Gomez, linked with eight clubs, has yet to secure a regular role under manager Arne Slot.

Meanwhile, Konate's contract talks remain unresolved, with his current deal, signed in 2021 from RB Leipzig, having just over a year left. Without an agreement, Liverpool may consider selling to avoid losing him for free.

Kim's experience and physicality could bolster Liverpool's backline alongside Virgil van Dijk, but competition from Manchester United and Saudi clubs may complicate matters. As the transfer window heats up, the Reds face critical decisions to maintain their Premier League title challenge.
