The Premier Soccer League have introduced a new-look, more inclusive Carling Black Label Cup, which will feature four teams rather than just Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

The one-day event will be staged on November 12, a week after the domestic league goes on a break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which is scheduled for 21 November - 18 December.

SA Breweries have come on board as the PSL's new partner, replacing Telkom as the sponsor of the League Cup, though this will only take effect from the 2023/24 season.

In the meantime, Carling will reshape the previous edition that featured only Chiefs and Pirates, opening the competition to all 16 top flight clubs, who will be entered in by way of supporters votes.

The voting system is much the same as the previous format, and the four most voted for teams will then feature in a knockout system, with the two winners squaring off in the final.

PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza explained that the prize money for the competition will total R11.6-million, with each of the 16 eligible DStv Premiership teams getting R100 000 each (R1.6-million), while the final four participating teams securing a further R2-million each (R8-million).

The winning club will then bag another R2-million, though one lucky supporter who voted for that particular club stands to gain a share of R500 000 for him or herself, with another R500 000 going to a charity of his or her choice.
