PSL wrap: Ten-man AmaZulu hold SuperSport United in Durban

PSL wrap: Ten-man AmaZulu hold SuperSport United in Durban

There were two goalless draws and wins for Polokwane City, Sekhukhune United and Swallows in five DStv Premiership matches taking place on Wednesday.

AmaZulu 0-0 SuperSport United

SuperSport United were held to a goalless stalemate by 10-man Amazulu in a PSL clash played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.

Usuthu's hopes of pushing for their first victory of the season suffered a blow when Thembela Sikhakhane was given a straight red card in the 40th minute after a needless stamp on Shandre Campbell.

The visitors, with a man advantage, showed more attacking energy in the second half but could not make the breakthrough.

The closest Matsatsantsa came to breaking the deadlock was late in the contest when substitute Risen Albert thought he had scored but his effort from close-range was brilliantly kept out by home goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.

The draw leaves SuperSport on four points after two matches in this campaign after beating Richards Bay in their opening fixture while it was a second consecutive goalless stalemate for Usuthu after the same result against Royal AM on Saturday.

Polokwane City 1-0 Stellenbosch FC

Polokwane City opened their account for the season with a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch, thanks to Stellenbosch defender Olivier Toure's own goal.

Rise and Shine returned to the DStv Premiership this season after a three-year hiatus and claimed their first top-flight victory since March 2020.

Stellies were unable to follow up on their win against Orlando Pirates as City bounced back from a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City.

The only goal of the match came in the 35th minute when Thabang Matuludi whipped in an excellent cross from the right flank and Stellies centre-back Olivier Toure attempted to head clear, but only succeeded in directing the ball into his own net.

Cape Town Spurs 0-2 Sekhukhune United

Cape Town Spurs slumped to a second straight loss after a 2-0 defeat at home to Sekhukhune United.

Spurs lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy in their opening match of the season. Shaun Bartlett's actually controlled the first half but Sekhukhune's dominance showed in the second-half.

Sekhukhune defender Edwin Gyimah opened the scoring on the hour mark with a header from a corner. Chibuike Ohizu doubled Babina Noko's account in the 72nd minute following up on a rebound after some ping-pong in the area.

Sekhukhune are in seventh on the table, while the Mother City side are bottom of the log.

Chippa United 0-0 TS Galaxy

Chippa United and TS Galaxy could not be separated after playing to a 0-0 draw.

It was Chippa's second such result of the season after their goalless stalemate with Kaizer Chiefs last time out. Galaxy beat Cape Town Spurs 1-0 in their opening fixture.

The Chilli Boys will want to improve on their home form after managing just three wins at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium all of last season. The Rockets were looking to break a four-match winless run away from home.

Swallows 0-1 Cape Town City

Cape Town City improved to two wins from two after a tussle with Swallows FC at Dobsonville Stadium, clinching a 1-0 victory.

City made their intentions clear early as Khanyisa Mayo headed an effort on goal after a promising cross from Jaedin Rhodes.

Goalkeeper Darren Keet then kept the two sides at level pegging with a top save following a skillful build-up from the home team.

The decisive strike arrived in the 53rd minute when City's Taahir Goedeman found the back of the Swallows net.

Despite their significant possession of the ball, Swallows were unable to create enough chances to find their equaliser.
