PSL Preview wrap: Steve Komphela on the hunt for more points

Golden Arrows v SuperSport United 

Steve Komphela will be aiming for a third successive win when Golden Arrows take on SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

Abafana Bes'thende were on a 10-match losing run under Mabhuti Khenyeza but Komphela has managed to beat both Polokwane City and Richards Bay on his return to the club.

The results lifted Arrows into a respectable eighth place with 29 points, where a result could see them move above Kaizer Chiefs - who lost to Stellenbosch on Tuesday - and into seventh, just a point behind SuperSport.

Gavin Hunt's side have dropped all the way to sixth with four successive draws following their shock 3-1 loss to Richards Bay in December, but with just a handful of points separating Matsatsantsa from second-placed Stellies - a win at the Mpumalanga Stadium would lift the team as high as third.

Ahead of the game, Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa said on SuperSport: "We did not fight for the coach [Former coach Mabhuti Khenyeza]. Now we have coach Steve, I believe the tough times have taught everyone a lesson.

"As of now, we are all focusing on the season's remaining games to see that we help the team win. We want to end the season on a high note."

Hunt added on FARPost recently: "I think for us, we've got an eye on trying to get back in the CAF.

"I think there's four teams for two spots in my opinion. So, that's gonna be tough but we did it last season.

"I think it's important for us to just concentrate, get to the next game and get to the next game."

TS Galaxy v Royal AM

TS Galaxy will be looking to continue their climb up the league table with a big win over Royal AM at home on Wednesday.

Sead Ramovic's side have been massively inconsistent this season, winning eight games while drawing seven, along with four draws from their 19 games.

But in recent weeks the club have been showing signs of life with wins over Chippa United, Golden Arrows and most recently AmaZulu to leave them in ninth place on the standings.

Royal AM down in 12th spot will be no walkovers though after they managed to overcome Cape Town City 2-0 last time out, following a draw with Kaizer Chiefs, and a win over Richards Bay, ahead of narrowly losing to an in-form Sekhukhune United.

Ramovic has his sights set on a top-eight finish this term and said as much in the Sowetan: "We have to be realistic. We want to be in the top eight this season.

"But for now, we have to be focused and stay humble to reach our dreams and goals."

Chippa United v Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs were enjoying a mini-revival in recent weeks that gave the club hope of surviving relegation this season. After just one win against Orlando Pirates in November, the Urban Warriors overcame both AmaZulu and TS Galaxy and secured impressive draws with Pirates and Stellensbosch.

But they most recenty went down 1-0 to Swallows in their last encounter to leave them two points adrift of Richards Bay at the bottom of the standings.

Chippa, meanwhile, are faring slightly better in 14th place with 23 points, a whole 11 points better off than Spurs. 

The Chilli Boys lost their last two games, to Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City, having built on a 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch with a 3-0 defeat of Richards Bay.

Spurs head Ernst Middendorp said on SuperSport: "I'm afraid that we probably have similar situations, but we need to be focused of course to ourselves and do the right stuff. Be more professional, be more experienced in certain moments."

Chippa United co-coach Thabo September added after their most recent defeat: "We are doing well. This is our second loss in five games in the league.

"So we collected five points, it's going to pick up. In the next match, we need to come in and just win all the games."
