Players give Pablo Martins a headache in planning for the new season

AmaZulu FC coach Pablo Franco Martins has a serious headache about the future of some of his players, ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Usuthu are yet to make a decision on the future of the likes of Pule Ekstien, Ramahlwe Mphahlelwe, Veli Mothwa, and other senior players. Whose contracts come to an end in June.

Martins, addressing the media following their 2-1 league win against Chippa United at Moses Mabhida stadium - says he is shaking and stressed about planning around his squad for the new season.

''I am shaking, why - because they are performing well. if teams approach them it means I lose good players,'' said Martins.

AmaZulu have had a not so good season in the league with results, the performances have improved especially in the cup games, losing in the semifinals of the Carling Knockout and in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.

The Spanish born has reflected on his first season with the team and how the players have reacted to his playing style.

''It is not just a matter of me wanting those players. Maybe getting a different kind of winger will give us something. We want maximum performance from the players,'' said Martins.

Usuthu under Pablo are having a good record against KwaZulu-Natal teams, winning four and drawing two in the league.

On Tuesday they are playing against Richards Bay FC in a must win clash for the relegation threatened Natal Rich Boys. Pablo says they will not be doing any favours, they want to keep their good record of dominating the Province, and finish in the top eight.

Usuthu had to get a last minute penalty to get their first win against Chippa United in three meetings. The coach reacted to the game, feeling they managed to come back stronger in the second half, after a slow  start and lost especially in the first half.

He says they knew the importance of the win for them to finish in the top eight.

The former Real Madrid mentor has been vocal about the referees and Usuthu got a questionable penalty to seal the three points, in the last minutes. Pablo admits it was a doubtful call.

He says he asked the players for clarity about the decision.
