Pitso Mosimane confirms being engaged by SAFA for the Bafana Bafana job

SAFA head of the Technical Committee, Jack Maluleke, was quoted in the media recently confirming that Mosimane was one of the people who were being considered for the Bafana job when it became available after the departure of coach Hugo Broos.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF) coaching manual, Mosimane finally opened up about the Bafana Bafana coaching process. 

"Well, Bafana job, I guess you were talking about coach Hugo Broos right? I don't know when the contract ends, is it available or not but I know that the federation has spoken to a lot of us about somebody to come in succession plan,” Mosimane said.

“What you want, what you gonna do, what's your plan, how do we take Bafana to a better level. I always say that it's important to leave a jersey at a better place. “There's room for improvement, I left Sundowns with the Champions League. Did they have a second one? Thank you, they have it, right. So, every stage and every level can be reached, can be improved."

Mosimane coached Bafana Bafana between 2010 and 2012, before going to Mamelodi Sundowns, and has been touted as a possible successor. 

Bafana under Broos has achieved some milestones, both at AFCON and World Cup level, and Mosimane says there’s still a big room for improvement.

"Carlos Quieroz did it right, it's not the first time we won the AFCON, Clive Barker won it right? So, we can maybe talk about going into the next round of knockouts, yes, that we can celebrate but being semi-finalists, quarter-finalists, we have done that, let's be honest,” he added. 

“So, that bar is high but has been achieved before. So, we cannot just say, oh, it's a high bar and all that, I mean, I left Sundowns, I won the treble and they've won the league how many times after I left? So, we can all do it right? So no is indispensable."
