Marumo Gallants Bloemfontein exit confirmed

The news will finally be announced at a press conference on Tuesday morning in Sandton, just days before the start of the new Betway Premiership campaign. 

An invitation already sent to the media says the club will “officially announce its plans and vision for the upcoming football season”. 

As we previously reported last month, Gallants plan to relocate to Pretoria as their home base, and play their home matches at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. 

In the latest development on the matter, the public broadcaster is in possession of a letter signed by chairman Abram Sello dated 21/07/2026 and addressed to the SAFA Mangaung Region, while the Free State MEC for Sport, the Mangaung Metro, and the Free State Sports Confederation were also copied therein. 

In the letter Sello thanked them for their unwavering support during their stay in the city, while also letting them know of the decision to move the club away from the Free State capital ahead of the 2026/27 season.

While he admitted the decision was not an easy one, he cited venue challenges, travel and logistics, and league compliance requirements as the reasons they can no longer stay in Bloemfontein. 

Marumo’s top brass had previously held a meeting with all those stakeholders on June 24 to ventilate their concerns about hosting their home matches at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Rocklands and using the Toyota Stadium in the city centre as an alternative, in what was the first sign that a move elsewhere was on the cards.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa relocated to Bloemfontein in 2024 after acquiring the status of Moroka Swallows, but had to share the support base with Siwelele FC last season after the latter bought Supersport United. 

This has also been one of the reasons they decided to find new support in the North West province.
