Otto Addo returns as head coach of Ghana after leaving Borussia Dortmund

Otto Addo will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the current season and return as head coach of the Ghana national team.

The Black Stars have been without a head coach since Chris Hughton was sacked during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January where Ghana were eliminated in the group stage.

Addo, who played for Black Stars from 1999 until 2006, will take back the coaching role he held during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but then returned to German club Dortmund where worked as a talent coach.

The Bundesliga side said on social media: "Borussia Dortmund and talent coach Otto Addo will part ways in the summer as he embarks on his new role as coach for the Ghanaian national team.

"We wish him nothing but the best as he embraces this exciting new chapter in his career!"

The Ghana FA said in a statement: "Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision.

"There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our peculiar situation.

"The committee was overly satisfied with Otto's performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval."
