The Buccaneers dropped crucial points and lost ground on log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who thrashed Richards Bay 3-0 to go 12 points clear albeit having played two games more.
Pirates failed to defend a corner kick, which defender Tresor Tshibwabwa headed into the net to hand Babina Noko what would ultimately be the winning goal.
Riveiro did not want to raise any alarm, but did admit the Soweto giants needed to pay attention to their aerial weakness.
"Yeah, obviously the set piece is an element that we need to [work on] and we're doing it, we're trying to get better to minimise our deficits in those situations, like every other team,” Riveiro said.
“I think during the whole season we were quite solid and dominating in those situations but it's true that for whatever reason in the last games we are suffering a little bit more and sometimes the opponent is more accurate but I think it's something that we are hands-on every week. It's not or shouldn't be something to panic about, we'll get it right."
Pirates once again controlled large spells of the match at Orlando Stadium but could not penetrate the visitors’ low block.
Riveiro says they laboured in vain.
"Before they scored the game was totally under control in terms of possession and territorial control. Not really accumulating enough contacts in Sekhukhune, not dangerous shots on target but I think the first half was clearly for us in terms of transitions on our right side but nothing much,” the coach explained.
“I think in the second half the feeling on our side was that there was a goal coming, I think we were much better in the beginning of the season half. We had a couple of chances also in set pieces and in one corner they managed to get a lead and I think after that we were not the team that we should be and that we want to be."
