Orlando Pirates' Monnapule Saleng dominates 2023 PSL Awards nominations

Orlando Pirates talisman Monnapule Saleng is vying for four awards at the 2023 Premier Soccer League Awards, and is up against Mamelodi Sundowns duo Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena for the Footballer of the Season gong.

Saleng, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Pirates from Swallows FC at the start of the season, dominated the nominees' list released by the PSL on Thursday,

This year's end-of-season awards ceremony is once again set to be held virtually and is scheduled for Sunday, 28 May 2023.

The 25-year-old attacker has been recognised among the candidates for the MTN 8 Last Man Standing, DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season, Player's Player of the Season as well as the main prize on the night – the Footballer of the Season.

Williams, who made history with a record 18 clean sheets in a 16-team Premiership season, and Sundowns teammate Mokoena complete the three-man shortlist for the top honour.

The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper, meanwhile, is also up for the Player's Player of the Season and the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season accolades.

The Brazilians' stunning end to the season, in which they won a record-extending seventh successive league title, has earned head coach Rulani Mokwena a nomination in the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season category, with Pirates mentor Jose Riveiro and SuperSport United's Gavin Hunt completing the shortlist.
