Nyland has made costly errors in each of Norway's last four matches, with his latest mistake coming in Thursday's 2-1 defeat by Wales.
He was caught out for Wales' winning goal after Neco Williams' free-kick, taking an early step to his left before the ball went into the opposite corner.
Nyland had also been at fault in Norway's 2-1 Nations League defeat by Portugal, with his mistakes helping to end their 14-match unbeaten home run.
His difficult spell began at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where a mistake against England contributed to Norway's quarter-final exit despite his earlier heroics, including a penalty save against Brazil.
Solbakken confirmed after the Wales defeat that Brest goalkeeper Egil Selvik will start in Porto.
"I'll reveal the plan now. I haven't told anyone else, so I'm announcing it directly on TV 2. Egil Selvik has been told he will start in goal against Portugal," Solbakken said.
"He was informed of this when the squad was selected yesterday.
"It comes down to performance. We agreed before this match that Selvik should get the chance. He has earned it."
Selvik, who has eight senior international caps, will now be given the opportunity to stake his claim against Portugal in the final match of the international break.
