Top-flight newcomers Durban City rose to the occasion in the second half of their 2025/26 Betway Premiership clash, scoring two goals following a goalless first half against TS Galaxy.
Both teams had a cautious start to the first half, with new Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane receiving the first yellow card of the match for Galaxy in the tenth minute.
The visitors signalled their intent soon after with new City recruit Haashim Domingo coming close to scrambling a finish home following good work on the wing from Joslin Kamatuka and Samkelo Maseko in the 15th minute.
Few clear chances were presented in the rest of the first half as both sides failed to control the ball possession whilst failing to convert the few opportunities presented to them.
An energized Durban City emerged from the tunnel and immediately took the lead in the 46th minute courtesy of a Maseko strike.
The Rockets then took control of the ball possession as they attempted to get back into the match, only to be rocked by a second goal from Mfanafuthi Mkhize at the hour mark.
Gavin Hunt's side were content to maintain their shape and watch Galaxy with the ball whilst looking to strike on the counter, with the home side reverting to optimistic shots that failed to trouble City's goalkeeper Darren Keet.
The victory temporarily moves the Citizens to second spot on the league table prior to the final fixture of the first matchday.
