Newcastle snap up Brentford striker Yoane Wissa on deadline day

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of forward Yoane Wissa from Brentford, completing the deal on transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old has agreed a long-term contract at St James' Park and becomes the club's sixth arrival of the summer window.

Wissa, who was born in France but represents the Democratic Republic of Congo at international level, has built a strong reputation in English football since joining Brentford in 2021.

Signed from Lorient shortly after the Bees' promotion to the Premier League, he quickly established himself as a key attacking presence.

Over three seasons in west London, he scored 49 goals in 149 appearances across all competitions, including a career-best 19 league strikes last campaign.

His journey began at Chateauroux's youth academy before a move to Angers in 2016. Loan spells at Laval and Ajaccio provided valuable experience, while a switch to Lorient in January 2018 proved decisive.

There, Wissa played a vital role in the club's promotion to Ligue 1, later netting ten goals in the French top flight.

"I'm really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League," said Yoane.

"I'm very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt. I've got dreams, I've got faith and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can't wait to get started."

Newcastle will hope the forward can replicate his Brentford form as they seek to strengthen their attacking options after Alexander Isak's departure to Liverpool.

With his pace, versatility, and proven scoring record, Wissa arrives as a player in his prime years and one capable of making an immediate impact in Eddie Howe's squad.
