Nedbank Cup: Swallows survive scare, Richards Bay beat Polokwane City

Moroka Swallows prevailed in a penalty shoot-out over Championship outfit Platinum City Rovers in the Nedbank Cup while Richards Bay also progressed to the next stage at the expense of Polokwane City.

Swallows avoid upset over Platinum City Rovers

Moroka Swallows survived a scare but eventually progressed to the next round of the Nedbank Bank after beating Platinum City Rovers 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out.

The Birds struggled to break down the ABC Championship outfit with match ending goalless that included a period of extra-time.

Swallows came into the cup encounter with poor form which saw Steve Komphela lose his job as head coach and Musa Nyatama taking over on an interim basis.

The Birds scraoed through on spot-kicks after the lower division side could not hold their nerve under the pressure of a shoot-out.

Richards Bay pull of victory over Polokwane City

Richards Bay are through to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after a 3-2 win over Polokwane City at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Th visitors opened the scoring after 29 minutes when Douglas Mapfumo found the back of the net but Richards Bay hit back with two goals in quick succession to take as Justice Figuareido and Thulani Gumede hit the target.

Tholo Thabang Matuludi came off the bench to score the equaliser for Rise and Shine but Gumede struck a brace and completed the scoring with 15 minutes remaining to send the hone side through in the cup.
