Nasser Al-Khelaifi: Potential Ousmane Dembele contract limited by PSG's salary cap

Ousmane Dembele's contract situation at Paris Saint-Germain has come into sharp focus following his Ballon d'Or triumph in September.

Questions have emerged over whether the French champions will adjust his salary to reflect his elevated status.

Dembele, a France international, is currently PSG's highest-paid player, earning an estimated 1.5 million euros per month. Since winning football's most prestigious individual award, there has been a push from his camp for that standing to be recognised financially, driven by his importance to the team and his growing global profile.

Despite already sitting at the top of the club's wage structure, there remains interest in negotiating an increase.

Recent reports suggested that Dembele had rejected a proposed contract extension from PSG. However, those claims were firmly denied by his entourage in comments carried by Le Parisien, playing down suggestions of an imminent standoff between player and club. Dembele remains under contract at the Parc des Princes until 2028.

PSG, however, are operating under a salary cap that limits their flexibility in offering what have been described as outlandish new contracts.

The club's stance was made clear by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who confirmed in an interview with Canal Plus that PSG have no intention of "breaking the bank" to secure an extension.

"We have a salary cap, as everyone knows. The team and the club are the most important. Ousmane is a club legend. I love Ousmane as a person and as a player," said PSG's president.
