Musa Nyatama to step in for Steve Komphela at Moroka Swallows

Moroka Swallows are expected to ask assistant coach Musa Nyatama to take charge of the team when they face Cape Town City on Tuesday.

It will not be the first time the former player assumes the role in the interim – he has done so when there’s been a vacancy or sacking.

Nyatama is then likely to have the brains trust of Ditheko Mototo and goalkeeper coach Thela Ngobeni alongside him in the dugout.

The Dube Birds are yet to resolve what is clearly a disagreement with head coach Steve Komphela on the way forward, with SABC Sport informed the experienced tactician is still yet to return to work.

Komphela had confirmed the public broadcaster last month of a communication breakdown between himself and the club when asked why he was absent from their first training session since December.

Swallows have had a lot going on – from the fiasco of forcing the Premier Soccer League to call off two DStv Premiership games against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows prior to the new year, then being charged and docked points as punishment while also dismissing players.

Komphela explained he’d tried to arrange a camp early in January, but was informed by Sipho Xulu, the CEO, that the suggestion had been shot down.

The Dube Birds have been slowly putting back a team again in anticipation of returning to action, however, Komphela has continued to stay away.

Swallows are in 11th place on the table after 16 matches [including the two where they were docked points], while City are in second position behind reigning champions Sundowns, who have two games in hand.
