The 33-year-old centre-back has endured a frustrating campaign in Tshwane, managing just nine appearances across all competitions, despite the season having reached its halfway mark under head coach Miguel Cardoso.
With opportunities increasingly limited, Lebusa is understood to be seeking regular game time for the remainder of the campaign.
Indications are that a move to Stellenbosch FC is gathering momentum, with the club now under the guidance of veteran coach Gavin Hunt, who was appointed last month following Steve Barker’s abrupt departure to Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
Lebusa, who joined Sundowns in 2018 from Ajax Cape Town – now known as Cape Town Spurs, has been a key figure during the most dominant period in the club’s history.
He has contributed to seven league titles as part of Sundowns’ record-breaking run, and established himself as one of the senior leaders in the dressing room.
While Lebusa featured in Cardoso’s early-season plans, his role has since diminished, often restricted to substitute appearances.
This shift has coincided with the permanent arrival of 21-year-old defender Khulumani Ndamane from TS Galaxy, with Lebusa, who will turn 34 later this year, now finds himself on the fringes.
The public broadcaster understands Sundowns have agreed in principle to either loan or permanently transfer Lebusa, with further clarity expected once negotiations are concluded in the coming days.
