Morocco steal show at 2025 CAF Awards

The hosts took home half of the 12 awards handed out at the annual celebration, with Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak taking home the big honours of Men's and Women's Player of the Year respectively.

Other awards included the Men's National Team of the Year, which went to the Morocco U20 team that were recently crowned FIFA U20 World Cup winners, as well as Othmane Maamma and Doha El Madani winning the Men's and Women's Young Player of the Year gongs.

Atlas Lions number one Yassine Bounou also pipped Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams to the Men's Goalkeeper of the Year accolade.

Elsewhere, Cape Verde, who are headed to their maiden FIFA Men's World Cup next year after winning seven of their 10 qualifiers including beating giants Cameroon en route, saw their head coach Bubista walk away with the Men's Coach of the Year award.

Nigeria were named Women's National Team of the Year and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie won the Women's Goalkeeper of the Year gong after the Super Falcons claimed a record 10th Women's African Cup of Nations at the 2024 edition held in Morocco earlier this year.

Pyramids and DR Congo forward Fiston Mayele was named African Club Player of the Year, while the Egyptian outfit also won Club of the Year after winning their maiden CAF Champions League crown.
